Pre-Kharif Sammelan : Pre kharif Sammelan cum Krishi Mela sponsored by National Horticultural Board, GoI was organized at KVK Uttarkashi. The Honorable Member of Parliament, Smt. Mala Raj Laxmi Shah was the chief guest. The programme was attended by 351 Farmers and 46 officials from different organizations. Dr. VK Sachan, Programme Coordinator KVK, introduced and informed the chief guest and farmers about the different activities of KVK. An Interaction meet with a team of scientists from ICAR-VPKAS and ICAR-IISWC was organized. Dr. BM Pandey, Senior Scientist, Agronomy and Dr N K Hedau informed farmers about ICAR-VPKAS, its activities, ongoing research projects, organic farming, FYM production, Vermi-compost preparation and off-season vegetable cultivation. Dr. KK Mishra, Senior Scientist, Plant Pathology explained about the major diseases and pests of various vegetables. Hon’ble MP Smt. Shah stressed on the importance of agriculture in upliftment of rural livelihood in hills. On this occasion, two publication “Swayam Sahayta samooh – Badi Bachat ki nanhi shuruat” and “Swasthya Bardhan evam aay arjan hetu buransh squash” were released.
PPVF&RA Awareness Workshop : One day Training cum awareness programme on Protection of Plant Varieties and Farmers’ Right Act (PPV & FRA 1961) was organized at Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Chinyalisaur, Uttarkashi on 19th February, 2015. The programme was sponsored by PPV&FRA, New Delhi. The objective of the workshop was to create awareness on identification of the local and indigenous varieties and their registration through PPV&FRA. Scientists from ICAR- VPKAS, Almora created awareness on the Protection of Plant Varieties and Farmers’ Right Act, crops which can be registered, certain qualities of the crops for which they can be registered, procedure of registration of indigenous varieties as well as the horticultural crops and benefits of the registration. During the open discussion with the farmers it was identified that Lal dhaan of Purola, Razma of Harshil and some local pulses can be registered under this act. 100 progressive farmers of Uttarkashi district participated in the workshop.
